The Metroid Prime 3 Corruption video game for the Nintendo Wii brings out a whole new set of features that have reviewers fired up for the August, 2007 release. The new features that are attracting a lot of attention are new visors, new abilities, and game playing function.
The new visor that is attracting the most attention is the Command Visor, which allows the player to bring in Samus’ gunship for things like combat support, removal of heavy obstacles and to use as a platform. While the ship cannot be flown directly by the player, it is an integrated part of game play in a variety of situations. Upgrades have been added to the Scan Visor and a new feature of the old X-Ray visor is the ability to shoot through walls.
With the introduction of Phazon, corruption to the player’s hyper mode can be entered throughout the game through the use of PED’s or Phazon Enhancement Devices, which all hunters are equipped with at the beginning of the game. There is a whole new list of abilities in hyper mode, which grow during the game and as the game progresses. Another new feature and one necessary to the game is the corruption meter, which shows the amount of Phazon within your character. Too much Phazon and the character dies, however hyper mode abilities use Phazon so using them can help keep your character alive. It is important to note though that if you run out of Phazon your character ends up out of hyper mode and you have to wait for the meter to fill up.
The game has a more finished look than the previous Prime releases and holds at a frames-per-second speed of 60. There is also smoother use of the controls and better control during game play along with a feature that takes game play up a notch. The feature allows the player to switch between the standard lock on target and shoot and being able to fire consistently on other parts of the screen at the same time the player is locking on to other targets on the screen.
Another new feature that has some excited is the use of full voice acting which was not employed in previous Prime releases. It unfortunately does not extend to the main character Samus who, according to reports, does not speak during the entirety of the game. There are also a number of new characters and hunters being introduced including a robotic hunter, a rock hunter and a shape shifting, ghostly purple woman.
With the use of the Wii remote and Nunchuk, the developer, Retro Studios, has really done its best to integrate the best features of the Nintendo Wii into the features for game play in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Better graphics, full voice acting, new attacks, abilities, and weaponry really add to the game and make it one of the most anticipated releases for the Nintendo Wii system for the 2007 year.
